After the rejection of Metro rail plan for Varanasi in June last year, Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) has proposed introduction of monorail, ropeways and waterways for Varanasi.
RITES will submit its estimate on operational cost and revenue generation on its proposal of mass-rapid transport system (MRTS) introduction in Varanasi. Once the proposal is submitted, Union ministry of urban development will finalise which of these modes of transportation will be launched in the city on priority.
After the proposal for Metro was rejected, Varanasi Development Authority had asked RITES to prepare another proposal by incorporating different means of transportation feasible for the city. Read more
