Covid-19: Railway production units asked to explore possibility of manufacturing medical equipment

The Indian Railways has asked its rolling stock production units to explore the possibility of manufacturing medical equipment, as it prepares for the Covid-19 outbreak to unfold in India.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in India reached 492 on Tuesday, with 10 deaths reported on account of the disease.

The ministry of railways, in consultation with production units and zonal railway workshops, has decided to use the manufacturing facilities of its production units like Chittaranjan Locomotive Works in West Bengal, Integral Coach Factory, Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, Diesel Locomotive Works in Varanasi, Rail Wheel Factory in Yelahanka, Karnataka, to manufacture essential items which can be utilised for treatment of people affected by the pandemic.
