Delhi winter power demand at record 5343mw

Delhi clocked its highest ever winter power demand on Wednesday, first day of the new year with a peak hour power demand 5343 mw due to high consumption by heaters and geysers.

January 1 was the coldest January day so far at 2.4 degrees in the last six years. Delhi broke the previous high of 5298 mw recorded on December 30, 2019. This is an increase of over 19% from the peak hour power demand of 4472 mw, recorded on January 1, 2019.

An official statement by BSES said heating load is the main factor behind the increase in Delhi’s power load winter months. Delhi had recorded an all-time high of 7409 mw during summers of 2019. Read More
