FASTag deadline approaches, yet traffic crawls at toll plazas

With only a few days left for all except one lane at toll plazas on national highways across the country to shift to FASTag-only mode, Karnataka seems to be lagging. While the share of FASTag in total transactions is hovering around 46% in the state, not much is being done to deter motorists without FASTag from straying into the cashless lanes.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) had last month stated that motorists entering FASTag lanes without the stickers will have to pay double the toll. The penalty was expected to force motorists to get FASTags instead of paying double toll or spending time in long queues on manual toll fee lanes.
