Govt to file review petition to resume CERC operations

The government is likely to file a petition in the Supreme Court seeking review of an order which led to suspension of operations of power regulator Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), delaying resolution of a number of cases and new regulations.

The commission is non-functional since three weeks as the apex court had asked two members of CERC to go on leave till the time a member-law is appointed.

“The Union power ministry has taken an opinion from the law ministry and may file a review petition soon as the August 28 order has paralysed operations of the commission. The government is likely to request the apex court to allow operations of the commission while the process of appointment of a member-law is being conducted on a fast track basis,” a person aware of the matter told ET.
