IOC to adopt Miyawaki method for green development

The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), with the help of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), will take up greenery restoration and development by adopting Miyawaki method in the city.

The Miyawaki is a method developed by the Japan botanist Akira Miyawaki to develop dense and native forests. This technique ensures plant growth is 10 times faster and the resulting plantation is 30 times denser than usual. To begin with Miyawaki method will be first implemented in Gachibowli and extended to other areas in the later phases.

The IOC, which is taking up the project under corporate social responsibility, has invited TRS MP Joginapally Santosh Kumar as chief guest for the inauguration on February 17. IOC general manager SS Prasad said Santosh Kumar was invited as he has taken up `Green Challenge movement like a mission in the state for improvement of greenery in the state.

Prasad said the IOC had taken up projects in education and sanitation field under the corporate social responsibility scheme earlier. Santosh Kumar appreciated the efforts by the IOC and said it was the responsibility of every citizen to protect the environment.

He said he had adopted one forest near Keesara and assured all help in the project taken up by the IOC.
