Mahagenco’s Bhivkund coal block cancelled

The coal ministry has cancelled the allocation of Mahagenco’s Bhivkund coal block located in Chandrapur district for failing to start mining even after passage of over 11 years. The block had proven reserves of 100 million tonnes (MT) and was meant for a new 500MW unit. It is not clear whether the ministry will now allocate it to another company.

The block was allocated to the power generation company in July 2008. Mahagenco was supposed to start coal production from September 2015.
