Maharashtra power regulator says discoms’ billing calculation in line with norms

Maharashtra electricity regulator has looked into the consumer uproar due to the surge in bills in the month of June and has said that it is mainly on account of adjustments done for units consumed during the lockdown which could not be billed then.

Mumbai residents, including celebrities, took to social media to express disbelief and complain regarding a sudden and steep increase in their electricity bills in the month of June. In some cases, the bills are almost 2-3 times more than the previous month.

Maharashtra has four electricity distribution companies (discoms) in the state– the state run Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company and BEST Undertaking, and the private sector companies Adani Electricity and Tata Power Company.
