The Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has stopped its supply to five CNG pumps in Mumbai region, causing unrest among pump owners. The MGL has pasted a notice restraining three pumps from Mumbai, one from Thane and another from Navi Mumbai from carrying out operations.
Said a MGL spokesperson : “The agreement between MGL and five pump owners expired on May 18 and it is customary for any interested dealer to send a formal request for extension of the agreement so that gas supplies can be maintained. As there was no valid agreement under which supply of CNG could be continued after May 18, MGL was constrained to disconnect supplies thereafter”.
Said a privately owned pump owner : “We were given extension of 15 days twice during the Lockdown. But now our pumps have been denied CNG. We can protest and go on strike, shutting all pumps in Mumbai within seconds, but we do not wish to stop emergency supply during Covid-19 crisis. The MGL could have allowed us to continue during this crisis as well.”
