The lockdown announced by the Central government to combat the coronavirus had hit the cash-strapped power distribution companies (Discoms) badly. Since the beginning of spot billing, electricity bills are collected every month. But with the announcement of lockdown, the consumers were not able to pay their bills at the collection centres.
Jaipur Discom in an official statement said, “It had to pay for the electricity purchased every month to the power generations companies. If the consumers default on payment, it will not be able to purchase power and power supply could be adversely affected.” It said in Jaipur Discom alone about Rs 570 crore bills issued till March 20 are pending for payment.
It asked the consumers to pay online or by downloading Bijili Mitra app or could deposit at the office of assistant engineers’ office.
