Local prices of petrol and diesel were cut for the fifth successive day across the country on Monday (January 27). Following today’s rate revision, petrol prices were lowered by 15 paise a litre while the price of diesel was cut by 25-26 across major metro cities of the country.
In Delhi, petrol prices dropped to Rs 73.71 a litre as against Rs 73.86 per litre on Sunday while diesel is retailing at Rs 66.71 a litre, 25 paise less than yesterday’s price, as per data from Indian Oil Corporation website.
The pump prices of fuel in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes. On Sunday, state-run oil marketing companies slashed petrol prices by 30-32 paise while the cost was cut by 35-37 paise a litre across the country.
Citizens in Mumbai have to pay Rs 79.32 for a litre of petrol after a 15 paise fall over Sunday’s rate. A litre of diesel costs Rs 69.93, 26 paise less than yesterday’s price of Rs 70.19 a litre. In Chennai, the retail price of petrol price was lowered by 15 paise to Rs 76.56 a litre, from Rs 76.71 recorded on Sunday. Diesel costs Rs 70.47 a litre, 26 paise less than Sunday’s price.
In Kolkata, petrol is sold at Rs 76.33 a litre, down 15 paise compared with yesterday’s price of Rs 76.48 a litre, and diesel is sold at Rs 69.07 a litre, decrease by 25 paise from Rs 69.32 a litre on Sunday.
Similarly in Gurugram, the retail prices of petrol and diesel are Rs 73.44 (10 paise less) a litre and Rs 65.88 (21 paise decrease) a litre respectively.
