Railway Budget 2021 as part of the Union Budget 2021 is expected to throw light on how Indian Railways aims to run modern trains for enhanced passenger comfort and experience.
In this regard, Piyush Goyal-led Indian Railways has been working on manufacturing modern trains with higher speed potential and aircraft-style comforts. Tejas Express and Vande Bharat Express trains have been introduced on the Indian Railways network keeping in mind the need to offer more passenger amenities. Last year, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as part of her Budget speech had announced the intent to introduce more Tejas Express style trains to connect iconic tourist destinations.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic hit Indian Railways passengers train operations badly in the ongoing financial year. Regular passenger train services are still shut and the national transporter is only running special trains on major routes to meet the travel demand. However, with the vaccination drive rolling out, Indian Railways operations are slowly limping back to normal.
Recently PM Narendra Modi flagged off eight trains to connect the new Kevadia railway station near the Statue of Unity with other parts of the country.
