Railways received 1,962 complaints of overcharging of food items from Apr-Dec 2019

 Indian Railways received 1,962 complaints regarding over-charging of food items being sold in the trains from 1 April-31 December, 2019.

Of these 1,962 cases, fine has been imposed on 989 of the cases and the total amount of fine imposed has been 75,39,800, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Wednesday. 526 cases have received a warning, said Goyal.

Goyal also touched upon the measures being taken by Indian Railways to curb the growing menace of overcharging:

* Introduction of hand held POS machines along with QR code for generation of bills.

* Prominent display of Menu/Tariff through various means viz. websites, social media, newspaper, trains at a glance etc. mandatory with waiters.
