Reliance power plant’s dyke collapse: 3rd body found, 3 still missing

Body of a 27-year-old woman was found after 72 hours of search operation by rescue teams in Singrauli district on Monday night. This is the third body recovered from Harhawa region of Singrauli, earlier two bodies were recovered on Saturday.

Six people were reported missing on Friday evening after after fly-ash dyke of Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) broke, leading to a flood of ash slurry swept through Harhawa region, taking people by surprise.

Six people – Ankit Kumar, 3, Abhishek Kumar Shah, 8, Seema Kumari, 9, Chunkumari, 27, Rajjad Ali, 28, and Dinesh Kumar, 35, of Siddhikalan, Bhamora and Waidhan villages were reported missing after ash dyke collapsed on April 10. Among these Rajjad is a resident of UP’s Sonebhadra district but was here for some time.

Bodies of Dinesh Kumar, 35, and Abhishek Shah, 8, years were found on Saturday. And body of Chunkumari, 27, was found on Monday night, district collector KVS Chaudhary confirmed.

Sources said that more than 200 personnel are still deployed for rescue and search operations for searching the three other missing persons.

A magisterial probe has been ordered by district administration and Madhya Pradesh pollution control board is also doing environment loss assessment.

Meanwhile, Reliance power management has given in written to the district administration that a compensation of Rs 10 lakh would be provided to the kin of deceased adults and in case of death of a minor, Rs 5 lakh would be provided to their kin, a job would also be provided to the heir and maintenance allowance of Rs 7,950 as per the prevalent norms would be provided to the dependent of the deceased.

The official statement issued by Sasan Power Limited has no mention of death, it reads, “We are deeply anguished by the incident involving the break in the ash dump yard wall at our Sasan Power Plant.
