The V O Chidambaranar (VOC) Port Trust in Tuticorin has created a new record by discharging 55,020 metric tonne of coal in 24 hours on Tuesday. This has surpassed the previous record of 54,512 metric tonne of coal from the vessel M V Pacific Victory on December 11, 2018, that was set 13 months ago by 508 metric tonne.
On Monday, the Liberian flagged vessel M V Agio Sostis with an overall length of 225m, beam of 32.26m and draft of 14.02m was berthed at the VOC Port. The gearless vessel carrying 71,500 tonne of coal consigned to Global Coal Ventures started discharging coal through the harbour mobile cranes operated by M/s Imcola Crane Company Private Limited.
In 24 hours, a total of 55,050 metric tonne discharge was completed. M/s Seaport Shipping Private Limited is the vessel agent and M/s Sea Port Logistics Private Limited is the stevedore agent.
Chairman of the port trust T K Ramachandran stated that this financial year (till February 4) the port has handled 30.22 million tonne of cargo and 6.74 lakh TEUs of containers
