Tamil Nadu power minister P Thangamani has urged Union power minister R K Singh to instruct Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and Power Finance Corporation (PFC) to release Rs 20,000 crore sought by Tangedco for power generation in the state.
During a video conference with Union minister, Thangamani said Tamil Nadu would not agree to the new Electricity Bill (draft) if it affected the state citizens.
The bill wants the states to stop supplying power to farmers and instead pay the subsidy directly to the farmers for the power consumed.
“In March, we wrote to the REC and the PFC to release Rs 20,622.63 crore but till now it has not been released. We request the Centre to ask REC and PFC to release the funds at the earliest,” said Thangamani.
The minister also raised the renewable power obligation (RPO) and said Tamil Nadu is meeting the RPO with wind and solar power.
Energy secretary S K Prabhakar and TNEB chairman Pankaj Kumar Bansal and other senior officials participated in the meeting.
